About the Project
An undertaking rooted in the landscape
The view behind Atlantic Peak
This tourism project, in the form of tourist apartments, aims to create a new offer of conscious and sustainable tourism, promoting a lifestyle connected to the countryside, slow living, and well-being, combined with the comfort that is required today.
Located in Canada da Borracha, in the parish of Criação Velha, in the municipality of Madalena, the development occupies a plot of 81,257 m² dedicated mainly to cattle pasture, vegetables, banana trees and citrus fruits.
The project includes 12 accommodation units (7 one-bedroom apartments, 4 two-bedroom apartments and 1 three-bedroom apartment), a reception area, cheese factory, restaurant and a stable with an educational component, all integrated into the protected landscape of the Pico Island vineyard culture.

The three zones of the development
A
At the highest level, this area houses a reception area, cheese factory, gastronomic spaces, and a shop selling regional products. With solar panels on the roof, it supplies the entire development with renewable energy. A glass volume atop basalt walls with a green roof.
B
The 12 accommodation units were designed to ensure privacy and privileged views. Inspired by basalt corrals, they are concealed with green roofs and red window frames. Some include a spa with a jacuzzi.
C
At the lowest level, the stables and agricultural activities welcome guests and school groups in an educational setting. The green roof, partially buried in the ground, minimizes the visual impact of the building.
Materials & Architecture
Basalt
The chosen material for the accommodation volumes evokes the walls and enclosures of the protected vineyard landscape of Pico Island.
Cryptomeria
Local wood is used in the interiors, bringing warmth and Azorean authenticity to the living spaces.
Red window frames
In contrast to basalt, they recreate the image of the traditional doorways of Azorean houses.
Green Roofs
Green roofs that integrate the buildings into the landscape and preserve the natural morphology of the terrain.
